At Sabores de Portugal we have a wonderful collection of products to introduce you to the flavours, the tastes, the scents, the touch and the fantastic quality of products that Portugal has to offer. From jams and honeys to cured hams and cheeses, from spices and chutneys to the delicate flavours of home-made biscuits and preserves, from the rough texture and earthy colours of ceramics to the fine silky smooth finish of polished wood boxes and sculptures. The range of tastes and textures is vast and complex. We guide you through these superb products from suppliers all over this small but richly diversified country.

LOJA DO OESTE

Our shop, in Obidos, is open every day. We specialise in products from this region of Portugal and welcome our visitors and friends alike to spend some time with us whenever you are passing by.

We call this piece the "Cockerel", after the famous Portuguese cockerel, "Coq de Barcelos". The artist’s simple, earthy designs add to its character.

Choose from a box of assorted soft centres; speciality Bombons de Ginja filled with cherry liqueur; or a gift box containing a miniature bottle of Cherry Liqueur of Obidos, four bonboms de Ginja and four chocolate cups.

Jams and Honey

We had to visit many local suppliers to select the best products for our shop. Jam tasting can be a terrible Job!

Choose from more than 30 different jams and honeys.

A natural fruit liqueur made without colourants or preservatives, this is a truly local product made with the sour cherries, which, in this region, have a peculiar acidity due to the soil and climatic conditions.

We stock four different suppliers each with their own particular flavour. Which is the best? You’ll have to stop by and try them!

LICOR DE GINJA

The famous cherry liqueur of Obidos. This starts with the harvest of the Sour cherries in July and ends with the bottling of the liqueur the following year.

VINES AND WINES

Portugal is a paradox. Once a seafaring nation discovering much of the New World, it is now a small sedate country clinging firmly to Old World values. Portugal’s wine industry reflects this and has remained faithful to indigenous grape varieties coupled with a big improvement in the standard of winemaking.

The Oeste Region produces vast quantities of good table wine and has some of the most respected estates producing wines selected from the cream of the crop.

We stock a selection of wines from the estates on the Wine Route of the region. Sparkling wines from Quinta das Loridos or the Wine Co-operative of Cadaval; light whites and rosés; full bodied reds; wines for cellaring and wines for drinking in your hotel room tonight.

We are located at Caldas da Rainha close to main highways and distribution networks in the centre of Portugal. We buy directly from the producers; we meet and know all our suppliers; the artisans and craftspeople; the bakers and jam makers; the wine masters and the distillers of fine liqueurs and we personally verify the quality of our products.
